Publication of the proceedings of MFHR international conference “From Unravelling Commitments to Reinforcing Universality: Reaffirming International Human Rights Law amid Withdrawal and Backsliding”
The Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights (MFHR) is pleased to announce the publication of the proceedings of its international conference, “From Unravelling Commitments to Reinforcing Universality: Reaffirming International Human Rights Law amid Withdrawal and Backsliding”, held with great success in Athens on 26 May 2026.
Bringing together distinguished scholars and representatives of international institutions, the volume explores some of the most pressing challenges facing international human rights law today, including state withdrawal and disengagement from international human rights frameworks, mounting pressures on international human rights courts and treaty bodies, and strategies to reaffirm the universality of human rights.
The publication also features the keynote address delivered by Judge Ivana Jelić, Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights, which examines contemporary challenges facing the European Convention on Human Rights system, with particular emphasis on migration and asylum.
Through this publication, MFHR seeks to build on the discussions initiated at the conference and contribute to ongoing efforts to safeguard the universality, credibility and effectiveness of international human rights protection.
