On Friday, 18 September 2026, Professor Linos-Alexander Sicilianos, President of the Marangopoulos Foundation for Human Rights, participated in the Final Conference of the project “Ecosystem for a society without discrimination”, organised by the Greek National Commission for Human Rights (GNCHR).

In his address, the President of the Foundation highlighted the European safeguards for combating racism, intolerance and discrimination, focusing in particular on the role and methodology of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI)and theEuropean Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). He emphasized the complementary roles of the two institutions: ECRI addresses systemic challenges and develops standards, while the ECtHR converts the fundamental principles of equality and human dignity into concrete legal obligations.

In a democratic society, it is not enough for the State merely to refrain from discrimination. It must also create the conditions necessary to ensure that equality is real and effective.
