The third edition of the landmark publication “European Convention on Human Rights: Article -by- article Commentary” has been thoroughly updated and enriched, incorporating references to over 1,000 carefully selected judgments delivered between 2017 and 2025. Each article of the Convention is thus brought fully up to date with the most recent developments in case law.
The ECHR permeates all areas of national law and forms an essential part of contemporary judicial and legal practice. Within this context, the third edition of this work represents the collective effort of 18 distinguished scholars—experts intimately familiar with the Convention, either through their service at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) or through a professional and academic focus on human rights protection.
Under the editorial leadership of Professor Linos-Alexander Sicilianos—former President of the ECtHR and Professor at the School of Law, University of Athens—this volume offers an in-depth commentary on all substantive provisions safeguarded by the ECHR system, as well as provisions relating to the course of individual applications (admissibility criteria, just satisfaction, and execution of judgments).
The aim of this updated and enriched edition is twofold: to provide comprehensive insight into the latest jurisprudence of the Strasbourg Court, and to serve as a practical, authoritative tool for judges, lawyers, and academics. With its analytical depth, the work enhances the Greek legal community’s understanding of the Court’s ever-evolving case law and promotes greater engagement with the Convention system.
